International QEEG Certification Board

Organization

About IQCB

The International QEEG Certification Board is an independent, nonprofit organization established in 1995 to set and maintain a credentialing standard for quantitative EEG practice.

Who we are

An independent credentialing body

IQCB is an autonomous nonprofit corporation. We are not affiliated with any equipment manufacturer, software company, training provider, or clinical organization. Our sole function is to evaluate candidates against an objective standard and certify those who meet it.

This independence is foundational. A certification administered by an organization with a financial stake in who receives it is a different credential from one administered by an independent board with no interest beyond the integrity of the standard. The IQCB governance structure is designed to prevent conflicts of interest at every level.

The organization is governed by a board of directors composed of credentialed qEEG practitioners, researchers, and professionals with relevant expertise. Board members serve fixed terms and are subject to conflict-of-interest policies.

“Quality assurance is a longitudinal, continuous process. Our education and certification goals guide this process, leading to certified clinicians who produce the best quality EEG data and clinically valid results.”

Benefits of QEEG

Why QEEG

Quantitative EEG (QEEG) turns raw brainwave data into a measurable, reproducible picture of brain function — one that clinicians can use to guide, and track, individualized care.

1

Clinically Validated

  • Stable and reproducible across the lifespan
  • Benchmarked against normative databases, including those from Harvard Medical School and NYU Medical School
  • Correlates with other neuroimaging measures, as well as blood flow and metabolism
  • Dynamic in nature, as reflected in event-related potential (ERP) data
2

Guides Individualized Treatment

  • Foundational to developing neurotherapy protocols
  • Provides an individualized road map for targeted treatment
  • Detects injury and tracks changes in brainwave patterns over time
  • Helps inform medication choice and monitor response, in many cases
  • Serves as an objective tool to measure change
3

Professionally Recognized

  • Used in Intensive Care Units to monitor patient progress
  • APA-recognized, helping protect a clinician’s license in the event of a complaint
  • Provides forensic credibility in legal and clinical settings
  • Featured in national media coverage, including Forbes

Benefits of QEEG

Where QEEG Makes a Difference

Across clinical settings, QEEG helps practitioners build a case conceptualization grounded in objective data rather than observation alone.

Sleep issues — pre- and post-treatment comparisons show measurable change in brainwave patterns.

Mood & imbalance patterns — helps differentiate presentations such as low power or depressive patterns.

ADHD and developmental patterns — reveals common brain patterns associated with attention and activation.

Substance use & recovery — tracks brainwave changes over the course of treatment for substance abuse and addiction.

Biomarker identification — for example, global high theta activity is a recognized indicator associated with Lyme disease.

Injury & functional change — supports non-verbal-to-activation progress tracking and other functional shifts over time.

“QEEG assesses brain function and provides a road map that is highly individualized — targeted treatment to improve function.”

Mission & vision

Why we exist

Mission

To promote quality assurance in the field of quantitative EEG by establishing and maintaining a credentialing standard that verifies foundational competency through independent examination.

Vision

A field in which practitioners, patients, researchers, and legal professionals can rely on IQCB certification as a meaningful, independently verified indicator of qEEG competency.

The case for certification

Quality assurance in a growing field

Quantitative EEG was developed in university research settings: rigorous, supervised, demanding of methodological precision. As the field has grown and clinical application has expanded, so has the distance between how the methodology was developed and how it is sometimes practiced.

We cannot give you decades of laboratory experience. We can certify that a practitioner’s foundational training meets the standard the field requires, and that they have demonstrated the knowledge required to practice responsibly. That is what IQCB certification means, and it is the only thing it means.

Governance

Board of directors

IQCB is governed by an independent board of directors composed of certified qEEG practitioners, researchers, and clinical professionals. Board members serve rotating terms and are selected for their expertise and commitment to the integrity of the field.

To contact a board member, send your inquiry to iqcbadmin@iqcb.org and it will be forwarded.
